Howdy folks, name's Carter. As of the 28th, I was at a Fall Leadership conference in Downtown Minneapolis, for the organizations of DECA and BPA. Over the course of a couple days we learned many valuable lessons, such as making sure you have a large contact list in order to help build your future, and also how to unlock the power of your mind by simply being kind to people, as well as living each day like it is your last. These lessons I think are beneficial to everyone, but especially those in leadership positions. I am here to share with you some of the ones I learned, but also how they can be applied to Prominent Gaming, and commanding positions!


In my first workshop I went to, we learned all about setting clear, defined goals in order to help you achieve them. Being precise and defined will only help you in the future. We Were given the acronym "GREAT" in order to help you achieve this.

Gels with my values and beliefs. What this is essentially saying is that your goal should be attainable with your values, beliefs, and morals. You don't want to have to do something that goes against what you believe in as morally right.

Real benefit. This part is essentially asking, "Is your goal pointless?" While that is a bit harsh, it is in fact very vital. Why work towards something if you are not gaining any benefit from it?

Exact. In order to obtain a broad goal (ex. Make a lotta money), you want to be exact about how you are going to do that (ex. Make 6 figures within 6 months by working hard, growing my connections to high rollers, and moving up the corporate ladder.)

Accountability Partner. Within every problem, there is going to be some frustration, and a feeling of giving up. You need someone by your side who isn't afraid of you getting mad, and someone who can put up with that. Having someone being by your side is crucial.

Tenacity. When all else fails, don't give up. A dream is worth fighting for.


In our second workshop, we talked about our individual strengths and weaknesses. Having both is these can only help you, but you wanna make sure you know all of them. So, one highly recommend thing to do was to create a list of +'s and -'s. Identify your strengths and weaknesses, and learn how to improve both.


My third and final workshop was on the power of First Impressions, and the importance of open ended questions. You have the 5 W's of Questions (Who, What, When, Where, and Why) in order to help you get to know a person better, and as well strike up a conversation. Making these connections with people can only be beneficial to you, as with connections you have many pathways in where your future can go, and how good of a person you can be.


Now you may be asking yourself, "That's great and all Carter, but how can any of this apply to Prominent and leadership?" I'm glad you asked, @Heron!

With our first lesson and the GREAT method, you can use this for any goal you may have for yourself, for your regiment, for the Jedi Council, for your skills as an EP, or event your ClimbSwep abilities. Goals is just constantly about improving yourself, others around you and the community as a whole.

Next, we move onto the strengths or weaknesses. This could help commanders with regimentals, identifying a problem within a regiment, and making sure to improve upon them, or help improve yourself, finding which regiment you best fit in with.

Finally, the Power of First Impressions. First Impressions can make or break your regiment. Having a brand new CT walk by you and think, "Wow! These guys seem really cool, and seem very friendly!" is much better than, "Wow...these guys seem very rude and off putting, I think I will avoid them..." but fixing your first impression is in fact very easy. Just remember this very simple question, "Am i setting myself up for success?" if the answer is yes, continue doing said thing until you achieve success! But if the answer is no, it may be time to look at things from a new angle.

If you are ever in doubt about if what you are doing is the right thing, take a step back, maybe perform a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) and try to see if your problem is in your control (Strengths, Weaknesses), or if it something you cannot control (Opportunities, Threats). And remember, confidence is key, and fake it until you make it!
